Drill Sergeant Academy
Welcome to Fort Jackson South Carolina, home of the United States Army Drill Sergeant Academy!
One of the highest honors for a Noncommissioned Officer is a spot in the Drill Sergeant Academy. Only the most qualified NCOs are chosen to attend the Drill Sergeant Academy, where they are trained to fulfill a role of utmost importance.
Our mission at the USADSA is to provide qualified NCOs with specialized training resulting in the awarding of “Y”, “X” and “8” skill qualification identifiers.
When NCOs are selected to attend the Drill Sergeant Academy they are coached, taught and mentored to assume the role of Drill Sergeant within the Initial Military Training environment that enables training centers the ability to produce the world’s finest Soldiers.
Drill Sergeant Candidates receive top notch training from their Drill Sergeant Leaders at the Academy.
Because Candidates must be experts in all facets of Basic Combat Training to train recruits, the Academy’s curriculum mimics BCT week for week. The courses are designed to build on the leadership abilities and skills acquired by the candidate and provides him/her with unique knowledge and skills to train IET Soldiers.
The USADSA standards are high.
Your attitude, diligence, and cooperation with others are significant factors in the degree of your success and professional improvement. We expect you to have a positive attitude, be personally committed to succeed, and obtain a complete understanding of the “how and why”, and not just “what” we teach.
Being a Drill Sergeant is one of the most demanding and difficult jobs in our Army, it is also one of the most rewarding.
Upon graduation, you will be assigned as a Drill Sergeant in an Initial Entry Training Unit. Your assignment will be both challenging and rewarding as you assist in the transformation of America’s sons and daughters into Soldiers for our Army. Just as you will always remember your drill sergeant, so will your Soldiers. It is up to you to provide a positive and rewarding experience as these young Soldiers begin their journey in the Army.
This We’ll Defend.
